The Position: We’re seeking an experienced Sales & Use Tax Manager to support a diverse mix of clients with multi-state indirect tax needs. This role will drive compliance oversight, nexus reviews, audit defense, automation support, and advanced consulting projects. You’ll work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams while mentoring junior staff and contributing to continued practice growth. Hiring: Sales & Use Tax Manager, 5 Yrs. exp. Location(s): Irvine, CA | San Diego, CA | Las Vegas, NV | Portland, OR - (Local only) Schedule: Hybrid (2 Days In-Office) with Flexible Remote Potential What You’ll Do Lead multi-state sales & use tax compliance, review processes, and filings. Manage nexus studies, taxability analyses, and exposure quantification for complex business structures. Guide clients through multi-jurisdictional indirect tax issues, including registrations, voluntary disclosures, and remediation plans. Support and defend clients during state and local tax audits, inquiries, and appeals. Oversee implementation of tax automation tools and process improvements. Develop strong client relationships and present technical findings in clear, actionable terms. Supervise, coach, and develop junior team members; contribute to practice development initiatives. Stay current on state and local regulatory changes and advise clients proactively. What You Need (Qualifications) Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. 5–7 years of Sales & Use Tax experience within public accounting or a corporate indirect tax department. Strong technical expertise across multi-state sales & use tax rules, nexus, taxability, and audit management. Proven experience leading compliance, consulting projects, and staff development. Experience with indirect tax automation systems (e.g., Avalara, Vertex, ONESOURCE). Ability to research, interpret, and communicate state/local tax regulations and rulings. Excellent project management, client service, and organizational skills. CPA, JD, or CMI preferred (not required).
